On Process & Perspective
Inspired by global coastal landscapes and the ever-changing face of nature. The movement of water, the softness of light, and the many tones of the earth all inform my process.
Working across multiple mediums allows me to explore these ideas in different ways. Photography captures a moment in time. Painting introduces texture. Combining those with natural elements like metal or cloth creates depth and physical presence, extending that moment into something more immersive.
Each piece is an invitation to pause. To notice. To reconnect with the quiet patterns of the world that often go unseen.
Artist Journey
Drawn to travel from a young age, I made my camera a constant companion as I wandered around the world.
At first, I was just photographing beautiful things, stunning landscapes, glorious sunsets, and endless views. Over time, it shifted; it became about noticing the unique textures, light, and natural patterns of each place I visited.
I've always been drawn to coastal landscapes, probably because I was raised among the stunning beaches of Rhode Island. Coming back to my home state really honed that focus. Not only photographing the New England seacoast but also revisiting the oceanscapes I had captured during my travels.
Looking back, painting was my way to reconnect with these places during a time when I couldn't travel. I wanted more than a photo; I wanted to remember the feeling of being there. Photos are limited to what you capture, but painting helped me pull from the emotional experiences connected to these images.
More recently, I've been incorporating other natural elements; metal to recreate the sheen of the sea, broadcloth from a sail now evokes the feel of a sandy shore. I have no one medium. That would be too limiting. I want my art to evolve as my journey continues.
